Configuring the Home Screen
SignalWire Work allows for multiple conference rooms to be available to use at one time. Like in a physical office, these rooms can be used to collaborate with coworkers, work silently, or take meetings.
The Home Screen allows visitors to see the activity in each room through room previews. Room previews show the name of the room, a list of who is currently participating, and a short video clip of the participants who are currently in the conference. Users can join rooms from the Room Preview or by typing in the name or number of the room on the dialer.
The Home Screen can be customized to fit the needs for your use cases. The following settings can be changed in the System Settings menu.
Administrators can hide the dialer from guest users on the Home Screen. Hiding the dialer determines whether or not guest users are allowed to dial arbitrary rooms. If your settings allow your system to auto-create rooms when dialed, it may be a good idea to hide the dialer so that guests can't create their own rooms or accidentally join rooms they should not have access to.
Administrators can pin rooms to the top of the Home Screen or change the priority of rooms (2-25) to determine the order that Room Previews appear. For example, rooms that are used every day like the Lobby, can be pinned to the top so that they are easy to find. Rooms that don't get a lot of guest users, like personal offices, may be lower on the list because they don't need to be easy to find.
Administrators can decide whether rooms show up in the Room Preview even when they are empty. Rooms designed for collaboration, like a Sales room for example, can be set to be previewed on the Home Screen even when no users are in them. Previewing a room encourages users to join in and work in that room throughout the day. Rooms that are designed for hosting scheduled meetings are often better hidden from the Home Screen until users are in them. Hiding empty rooms from the Home Screen prevents users from entering rooms when they are not meant to be in use.
Rooms can be hidden from the Home Screen entirely in order to maintain privacy. For example, if you are hosting a virtual event, you can set up a private greenroom that is not visible on the Home Screen to prevent attendees from accidentally joining and interrupting a private meeting. It is still possible to get into a room if a user knows the URL; for extra privacy it is encouraged that you set a PIN to control attendance.
Any room can be set with a custom PIN in order to add security, even rooms that are visible on the Home Screen. Only users who know the PIN to that room will be able to enter.
The Home Screen can be be branded with custom graphics. For example, at a virtual event, a room called "The Lounge" can display an image of a lounge on the Room Preview.
