User Types

SignalWire offers 6 different user types in order for your administrative team to better organize which users have which permissions within an instance. User types can be granted by an administrator and users are able to be granted more than one user type; for example, one user can be both a moderator and an administrator.

Guest

Guests are users who don't need to log in and can enter SignalWire simply by entering their name and email address. Guests have the least permissions of the 6 user types. Guests are able to use basic functionalities such as audio and video muting, using the chat, switching rooms in the room navigator. Guests are only able to screen share when given access by a moderator.

Guest Login

Registered User

Registered users have a designated login and password on their SignalWire instance and are able to be put into groups. Registered Users have the same permissions as guests, plus screen sharing. This User Type can log in by clicking "Join as Registered User" and entering the username and password given to them by their administrator.

Moderator

Moderators have permissions that allow them to make changes directly within rooms but not the SignalWire instance itself. This User Type is global which means moderators have these permissions in every room they have access to. Examples of these permissions include transferring users, audio and video muting other participants, and playing and controlling media.

Administrator

Administrators have permissions that allow them to make changes within the SignalWire instance but do not have moderator controls within rooms. This User Type is global which means administrators are able to make configuration changes to the entire system. Examples of these permissions include adding new users, granting User Types, creating and changing groups, changing room graphics and creating rooms.

Room Moderator

Room moderators have the same set of permissions as moderators but are limited to specific rooms. For example, a room moderator may be able to mute and unmute participants in the 'Sales' room but only have the permissions of a registered user in the 'Marketing Room.'

Room Manager

Room managers have the same set of permissions as administrators but are limited to specific rooms. For example, a room manager may be able to change the overlay graphics for the 'Marketing Room' but only have the permissions of a registered user for the 'Sales' room.
